South Wales Winter Congress

The South Wales Winter Congress was held at the Heronston Hotel, Bridgend from the 6th to the 8th of January. FM Sven Zeidler won the open section with 5/5. Newport players Rhys and Owen Bennett were first and second in the minor section with 4.5/5 and 4/5 respectively. Event report.

Gwent Lightning Tournament

The Gwent Lightning Tournament was held at the Baneswell Community Centre, Newport on Wednesday the 21st of December. FM Peter Varley won with 5/5 and Nigel Granville was second with 4/5.

Open, U1800 and U1400 Jamborees

Sat 5th November 2011

In an inspired experiment by the WCU Home Director, three inter-zonal jamborees - Open, U1800 and U1400 - were played on Sunday the 30th of October at the Visteon Sports and Social Club, Morriston. Teams from East Glamorgan, Gwent and West Wales played in all three sections. Gwent were third in each section.

Open - 9 Gwent players scored a total of 7 points between them. Top scorer was Nigel Granville with 2/2.

U1800 - 9 Gwent players scored a total of 6½ points. Top scorers were Tom Thorpe with 2/2 and James Lavender with 1½/2.

U1400 - 5 Gwent players scored a total of 5 points. Top scorers were Tony Davies with 2/2 and Owain Davies with 1½/2.
